Who is eligible/ Is my child eligible?
Our program currently accepts new applicants between the ages of 5 – 12 years old. Proximity to the rink should also be considered, as all practices are held in New Haven, CT. As you may know, Hockey Haven is committed to increasing the representation of players from historically underrepresented backgrounds. As such, we do give preference to players from New Haven, players from diverse backgrounds, and those whose financial situations may prevent their child’s exploration of this great game.
Does my child need to know how to skate?
No skating experience is required! Plenty of our players have never set foot on the ice before joining our program.
Where are practices held?
Practices are currently held at Ralph Walker Ice Rink, 1080 State St, New Haven, CT 06511.
Do you still have space to register my child?
Registration is first come, first serve, but reaches capacity quickly! More information can be found on our registration page (click here). If we are not actively accepting registrations, please join our listserv to stay in the loop about our future programs and events. Our @HockeyHavenCT social media is also a good place to see what our group is up to!
How do I join the email listserv?
Please fill out a form on our website, or shoot us an email at hockeyhavenct@gmail.com
When does the next program begin?
We are constantly working behind the scenes to iron out details for our next program. In the meantime, stay tuned for updates–join our email listserv and follow us on social media!
Is there any cost to participating in Hockey Haven?
There is no cost to Hockey Haven. We only ask that you provide transportation to and from the rink.
Do you accept donated gear?
Yes! Please fill out a form on our website, or shoot us an email at hockeyhavenct@gmail.com
Does my child return the gear at the end of the season?
Hockey Haven is committed to providing all players in our program with gear at zero cost. Players who remain in the program from session to session will keep their gear until either of the following scenarios occur:
- When they grow out of their equipment, they can exchange what they have for larger gear at ZERO cost.
- They discontinue the program, at which time the gear must be returned to Hockey Haven so we can continue to provide hockey equipment to active players at zero cost.
Where can my child continue to play after the program?
Currently we do not have an internal program or HH team for players to continue with after they graduate from HH. We are working on acquiring funding to allow players to continue on with local clubs once they graduate the program if they so choose.
Further, we are hoping to develop a house league of 2 teams that play weekly against each other, which will be composed of Hockey Haven players. This idea is still undergoing development.
